For flashing of mobile phones, you will need its firmware (also known as flash file). Flashing is the process of reinstalling the operating system (OS) of a mobile phone. It is necessary when the OS of the cell phone doesn’t function properly i.e. it becomes corrupt.

The common symptoms of the software becoming corrupt are as follows:

The handset may become dead.
The handset will freeze and get stuck frequently.
It will become very slow in fuctioning.
It will not boot properly i.e it will not switch on properly.
It may switch off automatically when on.
It may restart automatically.
Some pre-installed applications may not function properly.

And many other similar problems may arise. If it looks like its OS is not functioning correctly, you may consider the need for flashing the cell phone or tablet.

For flashing a mobile phone, you will need a PC (Desktop or a Laptop), flash files and compatible cables. For download of all flash files and firmwares for flashing of all mobile phones, you can go to all flash file and firmware download and get the required files easily. Here you will get all the required flash files for Nokia, Samsung, Iphone, Blackberry, Sony, Micromax, Lava, Karbonn, Maxx, Chinese mobiles, etc. You will also get the files for unbranded phones like GFive, Leephone, Celkon, Krystal, Lemon, etc. Also learn how to do flashing of various handsets with various guides and tips to go about it.

Now, it is also important to get the proper working flash file. If you try flashing with a wrong file, many problems may occur. So be careful that you have the latest, working and proper files. In most of the phones, if you flash them with a wrong file, they may become dead or may not boot properly. But later when you flash by giving the good and working file, the problem will get solved. But in some brands/models, the damage may be irreparable or we can call it beyond repair. So you have to be careful that you give the proper flash files and firmware while flashing.

After downloading the required flash files, you will have to located and give them in the flasher software and then simply flash the phone. You should know which software or box is required for a particular brand of cell phone.

Caution:

Flashing deletes all data from the cell phone. So always take a backup of all your images, contact numbers, videos, etc.

Smartphone Specifications

smartphone specs'

Are you planning to buy a new smartphone? Don’t know how to check its specs and features? Read further to know all about the latest specs and configurations you should have in your cell phone. It is always better to know and understand the specs you need to have before zeroing on and buying your new handset. As in all businesses, cell phone companies in some ways try to hide or disguise the minus points in every handset. As there are lots of brands and in-numerous number of models, it becomes difficult to choose the handset which will be best suitable to you and your needs. So if you are educated properly about the things you ought to see before deciding on your handset, you are most likely to not repent later!

There are many brands and hundreds of models to choose from while buying your new cell phone. Most of the times it becomes very confusing to select the best and most suitable handset according to our likes and dislikes. There are various parameters which you have to look into before going forward.

Before getting to specs and features, you first have to decide your budget. If you want higher specs, you will have to shell out more. The other option is, you get all the same specs if you go for branded Chinese manufacturers like Huawei, Xiomi, Gionee, Symphony, Oppo, Lenovo, etc. They are providing the same specs much cheaper compared to branded companies like Apple, Samsung, Sony and HTC.

Also before going to specs, you have to keep in mind that branded companies offer a much better quality in terms of hardware as well as software. They also provide a much better after-sales support.

A case here is if we do not go very far, just see the RAM provided by Apple iPhone 4. It was just 512 MB. But if we go by its performance it will be much better than most other cheaper models of that era having 1 GB of RAM. Similarly, if you consider camera, the quality of images taken from branded models with a 5 Mega Pixel (MP) camera will be much better than those taken from unbranded phones with much higher MP! This is because it’s the quality and size of the lens inside the camera that matters and not higher number of mega pixels! Many people get fooled in to buying cheaper handsets by just reading the specs and not reviews. The other advantage of good brands is that they release the updates of the software very often. All the below tips are for cell phones as well as tablets.

Specifications

1.  OS: The operating system (OS) is the first thing that you have to decide on. You already know that you have only 3 options – iOS, Android or Windows. The other options like Tizen, Firefox, Blackberry, etc have either failed or can be opted only when people accept them. If you go for iOS, you have only one option – buy the latest iPhone6 or iPhone6 Plus. While if you prefer Windows OS, you will have to go for Nokia. And if you are going for Android, you can either go for a brand, a Chinese brand or a cheap Chinese unbranded phone. The choice is yours!

2. RAM: The bigger the RAM the better. It should be at least 1 GB and the more the better. The highest RAM in most high end models is 3 GB. Again company matters!

3. Display: The resolution of the LCD should also be kept in mind if you want good high definition graphics. The higher the resolution, the better.

LCD resolution can be divided into:

720 x 1280
1080 x 1920
1440 x 2560

In cheaper phones the resolution may be even lower than 720 x 1280 thereby decreasing the quality of graphics. Also keep in mind that you will get 1440 x 2560 resolution only in high-end flagship models. Also if it is an IPS display, it will support viewing from wider angles more clearly.

4. Camera: Always keep in mind that mega pixels is not the only thing for judging a camera. Its not the mega pixel, but the quality and size of the lens that matters. If the camera has high megapixel, but the size of the lens is very small, it will just increase the size of the photo. The size of the image may increase up to many Mega Bytes, but the image will blur when zoomed. This is one of the specs very difficult to understand. This is why photography loving people prefer to use only DSLRs instead of cell phones for taking photos. One way of checking them is to click a photo and then start zooming it and see when the quality of the image starts fading. The later the image quality becomes dull, the better. Also you need to take a video, and watch the same video in a high resolution computer or a laptop to judge its quality. Its better if we check reviews of people already using the model to get the required information. There are many people around who rarely use camera. Its useless for such people to look deeper for this feature. You also need to check the image quality of front camera, if you love to take selfies! You also need to check if ‘flash’ and ‘auto-focus’ features are there or not although it comes in all good phones.

5. Storage: The more the storage the better. It should be at least 8 GB, if you want to use basic apps and some games. Also if you need a memory card, check whether memory card is supported or not, although iPhones simply reject the memory card culture! In such handsets, you should prefer for more internal storage option as per your need.

6. Battery: In terms of battery, you need to check its mAH value. Again the higher, the better. It should be a minimum 2000 mAH for it to last longer. You can also find phones with batteries up to 4000 mAH value, which will last much longer and will give a lot of relief for people getting frustrated from quick draining of battery. The stand-by time and talk time of the phones are much exaggerated by their manufacturers and may be true in optimum and favorable conditions only.

7. CPU: The most important part to see is the CPU which is the backbone of performance in any smartphone. You get to see dual core, quad and even octa cores. But even here, the company and name of the processor also matters. For eg. A dual core processor of a good company like Snapdragon, Qualcomm or Cortex will be much faster and better in performance than an Quad core processor of a cheap company! You also need to check the GPU (Graphics Processor Unit) now-a-days!

Also you need to decide on the size of smartphone. It all depends on your preferences whether you like a 5 incher or a phablet or something in between.

Some other features you also need to see are body color options, dimensions, weight, display protection,

Tip: Do not buy models which do not sell much in your country. If you buy them, you will not be able to fix them later due to unavailability of spare parts. So buy them only if you get them dirt cheap!

Mobile Phone Virus Protection

What is a mobile phone virus?

A mobile phone virus is similar to a computer virus. You all know what a computer does and what those viruses are capable of. A mobile phone virus is specially designed for it and it spreads from one vulnerable cell phone to another.

Viruses now-a-days are quite advanced than the initial periods of its history in cell phones. They can corrupt your important data or simply erase it, if it has infected your phone. The latest viruses are capable of sending fake messages or even spreading by itself through the mode of bluetooth. The current security risk has increased to a considerable level than it used to be 4-5 years back.

Today many smart phones or PDAs are in use, and users of these phones are regularly exchanging executable or other vulnerable files increasing the risk of being infected. The cellular industry takes the threat of viruses very seriously and is continually monitoring its networks and working to protect users from any future risk from new viruses.

Common modes of spreading of viruses:

  • Bluetooth
  • MMC Card
  • Internet

How to protect your phone from viruses:

  1. Always keep your bluetooth switched-off unless required. Or it is preferable to keep your handset to hidden mode unless you need it to be visible.
  2. by chance you have forgotten to switch-off your bluetooth, remember not to open any bluetooth messages or files sent by a stranger or an unknown source. They are most likely viruses.
  3. Only download content from trusted sources. Trusted sources include operator portals and other well-known websites that offer adequate protection against viruses.
  4. Always install an anti-virus software in your phone. Do not forget to keep it updated as new viruses and threats always arise.
  5. Never lend your memory card to anyone. It might get infected if the person to whom you have lent you MMC has infected his phone and he/she inserts your card in his phone. Also remember not to insert someone else's MMC in your handset since there are chances of his MMC containing a virus or malware.

How To Repair A Water Damaged Cell Phone

The next time when your get your cell phone soaked in water, tea or coffee, just remember and follow these simple and easy first aid measures. You will be more than happy and surprised to see your priceless mobile phone or ipod in working condition. Most people don't know the basic steps to avoid a wet cellular phone from getting damaged. The most important thing is to follow the procedure to avoid damages to the circuit board (PCB) of the cell phone as it is what an engine is to a car. Preventing damage to the PCB should be the main aim as you lose warranty on the handset due to water-logging and in such cases most of the service centers don't provide a new circuit board and it is also not available in the open market.

Steps to repair and fix a water damaged cell-phone:

  • Remove the battery immediately and don't just switch-off the handset. The removing of the battery is a must.
  • Now dismantle your cell phone carefully. To open your cell phone you need a torx T6 size screw driver and a tweezer. Remember the steps how you opened the phone as you will have to assemble it later!
  • Dry the green coloured circuit board carefully and completely. Use a hair drier or you can also dry it in sunlight or on the top of a TV or a computer monitor.
  • Dry the spare parts and components carefully. Be careful with the LCD as it is very delicate.
  • Clean the circuit board with spirit using a brush. This prevents corrosion on the PCB.

Now re-assemble your phone carefully and if all goes well, your cell phone should switch on without any hassles. If it fails to switch on, charge your handset and try again. If it doesn't switch on now, luck is not on your side. You will have to get your phone repaired at a service center.

Note: If you are scared or not sure how to open your cell phone and follow these steps, don't go ahead to repair the phone yourself. You are more likely to damage the handset further. Just remove the battery and let a professional cell phone repair engineer do the needful.

Manners and etiquettes of using mobile phones

The mobilephone industry wants all people to enjoy the benefits of mobile telecommunications but at the same time it expects them to use their mobiles in a responsible way.

  1. When in doubt, always go out of the room/hall.

When possible go outside or to another room to make your call if your call might disturb others. You can also use features such as text messaging answering services, call diversion and vibration alert, etc to receive important calls without disturbing others.

  2. If you can't turn it off, keep it on silent mode

If you need to keep your phone on for important calls, then turn it to silent or vibration mode. It's the ringtone of a mobile phone in inappropriate places which annoys and irritates people the most.

  3. When required turn your phone off and also check if it's off.

There are some places where people should never talk on a mobile phone or send text messages and where the ringing of a cell phone is considered highly unacceptable. In these cases, turn your phone off and remember to check it's off before you enter the venue.

  4. Keep your conversations private

People's sense of personal space varies in each situation. Making a call in a busy place may be okay, but talking loudly in a confined space like a lift or on a train tends to disturb people.

  5. Speak softly

Always speak softly so as not to disturb others. People can hear you even if you speak in soft voice.
